Consent: Entranced requires informed, affirmative consent for all activities that take place during Entranced and at any location or event associated with Entranced. This means that, for purposes of play occurring at Entranced, only “yes” means yes. All hypnosis and trancing must be consensual. This includes NLP, covert hypnosis, conversational hypnosis and other trance states. Consent for one scene does not imply consent for future interactions. If the person says no, do not ask again. If you plan to do consensual non-consent in designated play areas, please let the ConCom know to avoid any confusion
Harassment: Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
- Verbal comments that reinforce social structures of domination [related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion].
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
- Photography or recording without permission
- Sustained disruption of talks or other events
- Inappropriate physical contact or violation of personal boundaries.
- Any unwelcome attention after it has been made clear that the attention is unwelcome (or it would be clear to a reasonable person)
- Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour
Handling complaints: Complaints can be made to any member of the Con Committee, or to a dungeon monitor during the nightly play parties. When a complaint is made, the ConCom will talk to participants and witnesses to determine what happened, while balancing the privacy of the complainant as best as we can. We will also ask the person whose consent was violated what they would like to see happen, and factor that in when discussing the consequences of the violation.
In the case of complaints made by a third party, we will first check with the individual about whom the third party is worried to see if a violation occurred.
The ConCom has final say as to if something has been a violation of con rules.
Complaints about con staff: We handle complaints about our volunteers, presenters, and ConCom in essentially the same manner as we handle complaints about any attendee. However, the person or people in question will not be included in the investigation, evaluation, and/or recommendation of the repercussions
Possible repercussions: Depending on the severity of the violation, as well as the wishes of the person affected, there are several possible repercussions:
- An official warning
- A conversation//lesson about what consent is and is not.
- Consent Watch
- Removal from the event
- A ban from one or more future iterations of the con,
The Concom commits to choosing repercussions that match the severity of the alleged violations.
Consent Watch: An individual on consent watch will be required to fill out a negotiation worksheet with their play partner, and to give it to a dungeon monitor prior to playing with this person. Further, they will only be allowed to play in the play party areas where a dungeon monitor is present while at the con, excepting play with established partners with whom they are sharing a room while in their own private room. Individuals on consent watch will not be permitted to teach any class in which they will be demonstrating a technique with a volunteer. At ConCom discretion, they may be permitted to teach a class that does not involve demonstrations.
Sharing Information and Accusations: We work to maintain a close working relationship with Charmed! and NEEHU. As such, unless the person whose consent was violated requests it, we may share the fact that an individual was reported for a consent violation, as well as what we did about it, with those cons, and with groups local to the individual in question. We may also post a statement if the situation is severe enough, though in such cases we will do our best to maintain anonymity of the person or persons hurt.
Handling of private information: The only person or persons who have access to personal information used to register and obtain hotel rooms are the con Chair(s) and hotel liaison. This information will not be shared, even among the ConCom. We make it a policy to protect privacy to the greatest extent possible, and only those who actively need to know information will be informed.
